Reddit 1.0.1.0 for Windows is the desktop app of the social news and discussion platform run by Reddit Inc., and you can download it free from the Microsoft Store. It opens Reddit in its own window, with communities, comments and messages a click away from the taskbar.
Reddit is part news aggregator, part discussion forum. Everything is organised into communities called subreddits, each devoted to one topic: a city, a video game, a programming language, a hobby, a TV series or a support group. Members post links, pictures, videos or text, and everyone else votes them up or down, so the most useful or entertaining posts rise to the top. The comment threads are often the real value, because experienced people answer questions in detail and correct each other. On a PC, Reddit is especially comfortable for long reading sessions and for writing detailed replies. Joining communities you care about shapes your home feed, and the rest of the site stays out of your way.
Keyboard and mouse make a difference on Reddit. Open several threads side by side, collapse long comment branches you are not interested in, and use the search with a community name to find old discussions. Saved posts sync with your phone, so a thread you bookmark on the move is waiting on the desktop later. If you moderate a community, the larger window also makes it easier to review reports and queues.
If you prefer the classic layout, old.reddit.com still works in any browser.
The Store checks compatibility and installs the app only on supported systems. A current Windows version and a stable connection are all it needs.
Use the Store listing or reddit.com. Pick a username that does not reveal your real name, since posts are public and searchable. Be careful with links in comments and private messages, and report accounts that ask for personal details or money.
Yes. Reading, posting and commenting are free. Reddit sells optional extras, but nothing is required to take part.
